Camp Noel Porter Board
Vice President

The Rev. Kathy Hopner

Occupation and Employment: Since 2013, I have served as the Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministries at Trinity Cathedral, after serving churches in the Reno area for seven years.

Education: In addition to an MDiv from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific, I have a BS in Child Development with a concentration in Special Education, and an MA in Education; all a reflection of my lifelong advocacy for children and their families.

Episcopalian since: I was raised in an Episcopalian family, and have been in love with our tradition and liturgy since I was a child. One of my earliest memories is skipping down the center aisle of our church in Louisiana; the light from the stained glass windows bouncing off the wooden pews.

Camp Experience: Camping was also part of my childhood, first as a camper then as a counselor. I have over fifteen years of experience leading outdoor education and mission trips for youth, as well as serving as chaplain at summer camp. I have witnessed the transformative experience these have provided, and am deeply committed to making those opportunities a regular part of the spiritual life of our youth in Northern California.

Why I’m excited to serve on the Camp Noel Porter Board: I look forward to serving the Board in this time of transformation. I know the impact programs like Camp Noel Porter have on our children and youth, and am excited to be a part of reimagining what we can do as a diocese. This is the transformative work we are called to do in the world, but it is only possible when we are equally committed to the viability and sustainability of our church and its organizations. It will require vision and imagination, and I am excited to contribute to this process.
